Pero el camino al éxito no fue fácil, ya que tuvieron que sobreponerse a momentos duros como lo ocurrido el 2005, cuando finalizaron últimos en la Dimayor, pero con Ares confirmado como técnico.
El gran cambio ocurrió el 2006, cuando se sumaron jugadores experimentados, que llevaron al equipo a disputar todas las finales de ahí en adelante. “El cambio sucedió cuando se incorporaron elementos de bastante experiencia, como Rodrigo Espinoza y Patricio Briones, entre otros, los que aportaron con su jerarquía al equipo”, explica Ares.
Esta incorporación de jugadores de gran nivel ha hecho que muchos llamen a Liceo como los “millonarios”, apodo que para el DT no es justo. “No es que seamos un equipo millonario, sino que somos un equipo profesional. La nuestra no es la planilla más cara de la liga, hay dos que son superiores a la de Liceo Mixto. Simplemente somos un club que sabe lo que tiene que hacer para conseguir los resultados”.
La juventud no es un problema
Ares es un técnico joven, no supera los 32 años de edad, algo que no ha sido un impedimento para dirigir a jugadores experimentados y multicampeones.
“Para mí no ha sido difícil manejar este grupo, ya que trabajan bastante bien. Obviamente hemos tenido problemas, pero nada anormal. Mientras mantengas el camarín unido y los objetivos claros creo que se pueden conseguir este tipo de resultados”, afirma.
Según el DT la buena recepción de los jugadores se debe a que confían en su trabajo. “Como cuerpo técnico hemos sido respetados porque los jugadores sienten que el trabajo que les entregamos es el correcto. Hay una buena relación entre los jugadores, cuerpo técnico y dirigentes, lo que es fundamental para conseguir resultados”.
La apuesta es profesionalizar la Dimayor
El futuro de Liceo Mixto, al igual que el del resto de los equipos, es incierto hasta que no se defina lo que va a pasar con la Dimayor, algo que recién se sabrá el próximo 19 de diciembre, cuando los presidentes de los clubes se reúnan para definir el campeonato del 2010, el que incluso podría llegar a desaparecer.
En todo caso es difícil que algo tan extremo ocurra, tal como lo cree Ares. “En Chile hay seis clubes que están trabajando muy seriamente, así que por ningún motivo pienso que va a desaparecer, por el contrario, de aquí para adelante vamos a profesionalizar más el tema”.
